The Great American Smokeout is a national awareness program by the American Cancer Society (ACS) to talk about the effects of smoking and encourage people to quit using tobacco products. Human Response Network’s (HRN) Tobacco Education Program is expanding its efforts to reach more areas of Trinity County this year to support people who want to quit.
The Tobacco Education Program will be at the following seven locations from November 19 to November 22, 2024 to provide quitting resources and free quit kits. Stop by our booth if you are considering quitting tobacco products or supporting someone trying to quit.

Smoking is still the leading preventable cause of death, as shared in the Trinity County Equity Assessment. Trinity County has more than twice the rate of premature death than California, a higher rate of preventable hospitalizations than statewide, twice as likely to be diagnosed with coronary heart disease, and the death rate from chronic lower respiratory disease is higher than the state rate. Trinity County and Northern California youth also have the highest use of flavored tobacco and nicotine products in the state according to the California Youth Tobacco Survey 2023 and California Healthy Kids Survey, 2022-2023.
