Trinity High School’s Friday Night Live (FNL) youth leaders recently showcased their powerful tobacco-prevention work at the annual Friday Night Live Youth Summit Conference in Anaheim, California. The statewide event brought together hundreds of FNL students to learn from one another and participate in youth-led workshops focused on health, leadership, and community change.

Trinity FNL facilitated a workshop highlighting their Take Back the Bathroom campaign, an ongoing effort to address vaping and thirdhand smoke exposure on campus. During the session, students walked participants through the concrete steps they took to build a successful school-based campaign, including using thirdhand smoke test kits, meeting with their school principal, and organizing broad student support.

Workshop participants were then guided through how to create their own campaigns at their schools. Trinity FNL emphasized a clear, practical process: identifying a specific problem, finding allies, outlining realistic action steps to reduce the issue, and developing a strong call to action that motivates change.
The workshop was a major success and demonstrated the power of youth leadership in tobacco-free advocacy. Since the summit, Trinity FNL has continued to expand the reach of the Take Back the Bathroom campaign by presenting at the Trinity County Office of Education Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Coordinator meeting, planning a presentation to the Trinity County Board of Supervisors, developing pledge cards, and taking additional steps to grow the campaign’s impact in the community.
Through these efforts, Trinity youth are not only creating healthier school environments locally, but also inspiring students across California to take action against tobacco use.
